Conserving natural capital for future generations

Climate Change Mitigation

Conservation Carbon Project, British Columbia
Recently, MWE and Enfor worked with the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation (HCTF) and the BC Climate Action Secretariat to conceptualize a business plan to implement a large-scale habitat conservation project in BC that would set aside land to generate additional revenue through the sale of carbon offsets. As part of this assignment, MWE presented and participated in a business planning meeting with the Climate Action Secretariat and HCTF, as well as other invited professionals and organizations. The outcome of the meeting was an improved understanding of options for successful implementation of a conservation carbon project.

Forest Carbon Projects - North America and Europe
Mr. Clark designs and directs afforestation projects that benefit local communities and biodiversity, while sequestering carbon to offset effects of greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. Steve helped establish a small IPO to develop GHG mitigation projects in North America and Europe. Steve often worked closely with small communities and First Nations to help develop and implement plans to achieve GHG reduction targets. He applied significant experience in risk management to quantify risks posed by invasive plants, disease, and fire and blowdown. Steve also coordinated aggregation and planting of lands for forest carbon projects with communities and local subcontractors. He is experienced in using industry-recognized standards in project design, such as the Voluntary Carbon Standard and ISO 14064.

First in Canada to Receive CCBS Validation Statement - Marine West Ecology in cooperation with Carbon Friendly Solutions Inc. has received project Validation for its Northern Ontario Forestry Project from the Rainforest Alliance. The Rainforest Alliance has validated the Northern Ontario Forestry Offset Pilot Project design according to the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Alliance's Project Design Standards, Second Edition (referred to as the CCB Standards). This independent third-party validation covers an afforestation project on an area of 45 hectares of abandoned agricultural land owned by the municipality of Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada.

Forestry Offset Sale to Carbonzero - Marine West Ecology and Carbon Friendly Solutions Inc. sold carbon offsets from their Forestry Offset Pilot Project in Kapuskasing, Ontario, to Toronto-based Carbonzero. The transaction delivers 10,000 tonnes of ERU's to Carbonzero. Carbonzero COO Dan Fraleigh commented: We are excited to be involved in the development of Canadian forestry offset projects with MWE and CFS. As we diversify our project base, Carbonzero looks forward to offering our clients similar high-qualify ERUs amongst our portfolio of Canadian based projects.  [June 2010]
